Bajaj Pulsar 160 NS Review – First Ride
Bajaj Pulsar 160 NS is all new in the line up of Bajaj motorcycles’ portfolio. Brand Pulsar has been an effective series for Bajaj with its trusted bikes making a timely appearance at regular intervals. Bajaj Pulsar continues to be a behemoth when it comes to offering a range of entry level bikes that prove to be fun and have a commuter edge to it.
Bajaj Pulsar in the 160 cc segment is advantageous to the company, and caters to a large segment of buyers, thereby continuing to boost brand goodwill. It was launched recently at a starting price of INR 78,368, ex-showroom.
At the design fore, Bajaj Pulsar 160 NS has been snugly fit into the clothes of its elder sibling, Pulsar 200NS. Both share the same perimeter frame chassis. The Bajaj Pulsar 160 NS has a reduced swing arm width, five speed gear box, front disc 240 mm and rear drum brakes 130 mm. While tyres are small in size, but don’t let that fool you. Brakes and tyres perform pretty well. Bajaj has provided a kickstart as an add-on, alongside electronic power start in this model to cater to a wider preference bikers have.
With impressive dual tone shades, it’s quite noticeable. Bajaj Pulsar 160 NS runs on a single cylinder twin spark oil cooled BS4 engine to produce power of 15.5 PS and torque of 14.6 Nm. Kerb weight is 142 kgs. The bike has fuel tank capacity of 12 litres. The entry level naked sport has good low end torque, and you can surely feel it when going uphill.

While riding through heavy traffic, the Bajaj Pulsar 160 NS never stalled. It’s oil (liquid) cooled whereas others in the segment offer air cooled setup in this range. Handling on this one is pretty controlled that ensures an agile riding experience. Gear shift was smooth on this one. It goes out pretty fast.
New Pulsar 160NS shares suspension with the Pulsar 200NS with the same telescopic front and Nitrox mono-shock rear combination. Disc brake on this one is smaller in size when compared to Pulsar 200NS. Bajaj is not offering an optional rear disc on this model keeping in mind the price sensitive nature of the segment. Front tyre measures 100/80-17. Rear tyre is 110/80-17 tubeless.
Mileage is in the region of 45-50 kmpl for an easy rider. Maintenance isn’t complex. We tested the bike extensively for a few rounds, and it’s possible to clock a speed of 128kmph on a straight patch if the road permits. Bajaj doesn’t disappoint when it comes to Pulsar 160NS performance.
New Pulsar 160 NS are costlier than the earlier 150 cc Pulsar. Entering the market at a price tag of Rs 78,368 ex-showroom Delhi makes the Pulsar NS 160 a sweet threat to Yamaha FZ-S V2.0, TVS Apache RTR 160, Suzuki Gixxer, and, new entrant Honda CB Hornet 160R.
New Bajaj Pulsar 160 NS is surely a practical bike with more a refined engine and efficiency that takes it head on with most competitors on Indian roads right now. Bajaj Pulsar 200NS riders too will break into a smile after riding the little one. Pulsar 160NS is the perfect blend of power, refinement, handling, economy, style and aggression. Kudos to Bajaj.
